Looking into the future the Pelican feeding its young from a self-induced wound in its own breast (as depicted, mysteriously, on the state flag of Louisiana) is accepted as an appropriate symbol of both self-sacrifice and rebirth. Through his selfless efforts, man is raised from the slavery of ignorance to the condition of freedom conferred by wisdom. Given the current state of affairs in Louisiana, one hopes that the understanding of the Pelican as a symbol shall point the way towards a new consciousness of ourselves as a whole, and lead us to face our futures with strength, grace, wisdom and faith, to learn from our mistakes and carry our successes and zest for living to future generations.

SOWL Membership Form

Re: Opposition to the Morganza-to-the-Gulf project and its component Houma Navigation Canal lock.

To People of Wisdom and Conscience of Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes,

Here is the form (attached) to sign up for Save Our Wetlands (saveourwetlands.org) .

SOWL's goal is simple: TO ACHIEVE THE MOST EFFECTIVE PROTECTION FOR TERREBONNE/LAFOURCHE, protecting our communities, protecting our prosperity and protecting our unique culture.

This organization has already filed an intent to sue the US Army Corps of Engineers, The Terrebonne Conservation and Levee District, Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government, and the State of Louisiana (Dept of Transporation Development) over scientifically questionable and financially wasteful decisions made with very little public input in the Morganza-to-the-Gulf project and its component Houma Navigation Canal lock.

A summary of the issues and local discussion can be found here.

There is no fee or donation required to join, but it is necessary for residents and constituents in the affected areas to sign on to the federal action to establish legal standing.

We invite you to participate in the online debate and issues forum (address above) and to forward the sign-up form to concerned friends and neighbors.

I IMPLORE YOU IN THE STRONGEST TERMS to join Save Our Wetlands, to ensure a balanced policy in protecting the future of Terrebonne-Lafourche.

THIS IS THE LAST CHANCE TO HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD IN THE FIGHT FOR THE FUTURE OF YOUR HOME. FOR THE PRICE OF A STAMP, YOU CAN HAVE THE BENEFIT OF THE WORLD's LEADING SCIENTISTS ON COASTAL RESTORATION CONTRIBUTING TO YOUR SURVIVAL AND FUTURE.

If you do nothing, the current policy as defined by the SCIA (South Central Industrial Association) and petroleum industry influenced politicians will be forced upon you with disastrous consequences. Take and learn the lesson of Chalmette, St. Bernard, New Orleans East and the Ninth Ward... ACT NOW!
