Looking into the future the Pelican feeding its young from a self-induced wound in its own breast (as depicted, mysteriously, on the state flag of Louisiana) is accepted as an appropriate symbol of both self-sacrifice and rebirth. Through his selfless efforts, man is raised from the slavery of ignorance to the condition of freedom conferred by wisdom.
Given the current state of affairs in Louisiana, one hopes that the understanding of t he Pelican as a symbol shall point the way towards a new consciousness of ourselves as a whole, and lead us to face our futures with strength, grace, wisdom and faith, to learn from our mistakes and carry our successes and zest for living to future generations.

Save Our Wetlands Press Release:

ADVERTISMENT

Save Our Wetlands Inc. (SOWL) announces today she has filed suit to enjoin Chevron-Texaco, Orleans Parish School Board, Clear Channel Outdoor Advertisement Inc., and New Orleans Rapid Transit Authority from advertising and using Save Our Wetlands corporate name in conjunction with such a major polluter as Chevron-Texaco.

Clear Channel Communications allegedly also has links to the Bush Administration and Take Back The Media has an interesting commentary on their site regarding connections between Clear Channel and George W. Bush. CCS has not verified the information in this article, and it is listed as commentary. However, upon first inspection the connections provided seem accurate based on current knowledge and other sources we've read. Radio Ga Ga is a highly recommended short read.

Results:

After the lawsuit was file and before the injunction hearing on June 27, 2003. ChevronTexaco Inc. changed the slogan/signs/advertisement on the RTA busses to "Protect Our Wetlands" thus making the lawsuit moot.

The question Save Our Wetlands has, is why ChevronTexaco Inc. is insistent on using the phrases 'Save Our Wetlands' and 'Protect Our Wetlands' in their advertising when they are notoriously known for destroying Louisiana wetlands with the construction of canals and the use of harmful pollutants.
