Looking into the future the Pelican feeding its young from a self-induced wound in its own
breast (as depicted, mysteriously, on the state flag of Louisiana) is accepted as an
appropriate symbol of both self-sacrifice and rebirth. Through his selfless efforts, man is
raised from the slavery of ignorance to the condition of freedom conferred by wisdom.
Given the current state of affairs in Louisiana, one hopes that the understanding of the Pelican
as a symbol shall point the way towards a new consciousness of ourselves as a whole, and lead us
to face our futures with strength, grace, wisdom and faith, to learn from our mistakes and carry
our successes and zest for living to future generations.
Letter To Louisiana Public Service Commissioners
Re: Entergy's Request to Build a New Nuclear Power Plant in Louisiana
- Date: March 30, 2007
- To: Louisiana Public Service Commissioners
- c/o: Foster Campbell thru administrative aide Bill Robertson
Dear Commissioners,
This is pursuant to previous
email of March 25, 2007 concerning opposition by Save Our Wetlands Inc.(SOWL) and Save Louisiana Wetlands Inc. on Entergy's outrageous, absurd, reckless, and dangerous proposal to build a new nuclear power plant in Louisiana, and charge consumers in advance of construction. In this regard, before you sell Louisiana out down the nuclear radioactive corporate tube, you at least must provide an opportunity to gather information on how for example the nuclear industry fails to adequately cover citizens with insurance in case of a fuel core meltdown, how the nuclear industry cannot safely dispose of radioactive waste, how the nuclear industry cannot properly de-commission a nuclear power plant, among just a few of the issues.
For example, did you know that the Waterford III Nuclear Power Plant in Taft, Louisiana developed cracks in the water coolant System? I am enclosing a
November 2, 2003 Times Picayune article by Keith Darce on how cracks were found in coolant pipes.
I am also enclosing a July 4, 1977
Louisiana Environmental Study Group Report of which Save Our Wetlands Inc. sponsored, concerning facts and information on the Waterford III Nuclear Power Plant.
I officially request that all info sent to you by me on behalf of SOWL be placed in your adminstrative record.
Finally, I request that I be notified of your next meeting on this issue, and be placed on your docket so I, or an appointed agent can appear on behalf of my clients. I have contacted the
Union of Concerned Scientists to see if they can send a representative to testify before this honorable Commission.
- Sincerely yours,
- Executive Attorney
- Save Our Wetlands Inc.(SOWL)
- Letter To Louisiana Public Service Commissioners - Re: Rate-setters Look At Rules For Possible Nuclear Plant. It is with deep regret and horror that I read in March 22, 2007 Times Picayune that Entergy is appearing before you, requesting special economic favors to build another nuclear power plant in Louisiana. I as executive attorney for Save Our Wetlands Inc.(SOWL) am extremely knowledgeable about the lies of the nuclear industry and the Federal government it funds.
