  1. June 15, 2006 - Global Warming News Update - June 15th 2006 - There is no official Category 6 for hurricanes, but scientists say they're pondering whether there should be as evidence mounts that hurricanes around the world have sharply worsened over the past 30 years — and all but a handful of hurricane experts now agree this worsening bears the fingerprints of man-made global warming.
  2. March 21, 2005 - Tryin’ To Wash Us Away - Glaciers around the world are rapidly retreating, Southeast Louisiana’s coastline continues to subside, and Antarctic ice is breaking into the ocean at an accelerating rate. The result, many scientists fear, is that Louisiana may be inundated by the sea much sooner than anyone realizes.
  3. Feb. 4, 2005 - Greenhouse Gas 'Threatens Marine Life' - Dr. Carol Turley, the Plymouth laboratory's head of science, who presented the paper, said ocean acidification represented "potentially a gigantic problem for the world". She added: "It's urgent indeed to warn people what's happening. Many of the marine species we rely on to eat could well disappear.
  4. Jan. 27, 2005 - 'Scary' Science Finds Earth Heating Up Twice as Fast - The study by British scientists, which is published today, found the planet's global temperature could climb by between 2C and 11C because of skyrocketing levels of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide.
  5. Nov. 9, 2004 - Arctic Ice Loss Could Hurt Wetlands Efforts; Melting May Bring Rise in Coastal Water - The new Arctic melting estimates will require scientists working on the coastal restoration program to reconsider the effects of a more rapid sea-level rise on proposed projects. The 2-millimeter estimate already was 8 inches below the lowest estimate of sea-level rise predicted worldwide by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a group of several thousand scientists who have issued reports on the potential effects of global warming.
  6. June 18, 2004 - Letter of Concern for Louisiana's Wetlands-Coast & Support for Climate Stewardship Act - The International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concluded that due to increased temperatures, sea levels are predicted to rise 1 to 3 feet over the next 100 years.
  7. March 21, 2004 - Carbon Dioxide Levels at a New High - Carbon dioxide, mostly form burning coal, gasoline and other fossil fuels, traps heat that otherwise would radiate into space. Global temperatures increased by about 1 degree Fahrenheit during the 20th century, and international panel of scientists sponsored by world governments have concluded that most of the warming probably was because of greenhouse gases.
  8. April 12, 2002 - 100-Year Weather Forecast Worsens for New Orleans - Much of the threat to New Orleans and south Louisiana stems from predictions that increased temperatures will cause the Gulf of Mexico to rise, which will result in the loss of 4,500 square miles of wetlands along the state’s shoreline, according to the report. That’s equal to half of the wetlands loss expected to occur in the United States as a result of climate change, the report said, and compares to the 1,500 square miles of wetlands lost in Louisiana during the past 50 years.
  9. Study: More CO2 Now Than Past 650K Years - By analyzing tiny air bubbles preserved in Antarctic ice for millennia, a team of European researchers highlights how people are dramatically influencing the buildup of these gases.
  10. 2004 Signals More Global Warming, Extreme - The year 2004 is set to finish as the fourth-warmest since record-keeping began in 1861, fitting a pattern that has placed nine of the past 10 years among the warmest on record, the World Meteorological Organization said in its annual global climate report.
